Similar steps are involved when installing RAM on any computer. If you were to install RAM on a desktop computer, the steps are somewhat similar to installing RAM on any other desktop computer. In this case, RAM will be installed on a Dell Optiplex 760. The Dell Optiplex is smaller in size compared to the average desktop computer. The Optiplex still contains all of the components of the average computer, but its hardware layout inside the case is different. Although the layout may be different, the steps are somewhat similar to that of a desktop computer.
Step 1:
Start off by removing the side cover from the computer. For this computer, you need to pull back the lever holding that locks the side cover. Once this is pulled back, you can pull down the cover. Once the cover is removed, you will be able to instantly see the RAM and RAM slots. Find an empty bank and install the RAM.
Step 2:
Put the tabs in the open position before setting the RAM onto the bank. Once you find the bank you’d like install the RAM, and once the tabs are in the open position, the memory is ready to go in. I chose the bank that I felt was easiest, so I chose the bank that was closest to the CPU. I felt there was not much obstructions that could make it difficult to install the RAM. When installing the RAM, make sure the memory is aligned, then just push down firmly on the RAM until you hear a click.
Step 3:
After the RAM is installed, everything can be put back together such as the case cover. Install the bottom part of cover first, then install the top part of the cover. When you hear a click noise, you know that the case is installed correctly.
